Vistaril For High Anxiety?

I am flying out to the mid west from the east coast to see an old friend and I told the doctor I have travel anxiety and so they placed me on 25mg of Vistaril 4 times per day.

The dosage for relieving anxiety and creating sedation is 4 times that amount. What The Hell?

This medication has been given to me in the past and has been about as helpful as a sugar pill. Has anyone had experience with this medication, positive, negative or otherwise?

If you have, I would like to hear about your experience with it!

Thanks in advance,

I used to take 100 mg of Vistaril every night to try to help me with sleep. It did absolutely nothing for me, other than helped a little with allergies in the spring. I talked to my doctor last winter about it, and we agreed that I'd stop taking it. I know it works well for some people, but I'm definitely not one of them.

I take Benadryl (vistaril's cousin) and it works wonders for me. (Sometimes a little too well! Lol.) I think the efficacy of antihistamines in treating anxiety is very much dependent upon the precise chemical imbalance you experience that is causing your anxiety. Knocking down histamine levels won't do much if your anxiety isn't related to excess histamine.

I tried 25 mg twice a day. Had physical side effects, and stopped. I felt my physical activities more beneficial, and important. But it could have been interactions with other medicine. Once off a benzo I might retry it. (no wasn't on daily benzo then.)

Think it also depends on anxiety level and body type for amount of dosage.

Can you email your doc?

If you don't mind me asking...flight or travel anxiety?

Driving and riding I totally get but flying..sleep well

Vistaril is mild if certain preexisting conditions do not preclude it's use propanalol. ..get an EKG if you haven't recently and a cheap blood pressure cuff don't take if below 100/60 for conservatism I'll say 110/70

:)

Oh, I was hoping just the flight anxiety. Then maybe something very temporary or meditation for flight.

Flying I can sleep at take-off.
