What did you do today to chip away at your hypervigilance?

45 minutes of walking from 5.45am this morning with my walking group.

I also went to a cafe and had a green tea, and read a newspaper.

Hip and back exercises, pilates practise.

Giving myself a time out.

I stopped myself from completely 'hiding away' this morning simply by answering the phone when it rung. When I can have a fairly successful social interaction in a way that feels safe-ish for me, it can calm me for a while, and also relieves that inner fear, dissociation and self-consciousness for a bit. I feel a bit less like a frightened rabbit, or an alien failing miserably to disguise my identity on earth... :p

Taking my medication much earlier.
3.5 hours of exercise.
Social connection.
Musical instrument practising.

Learning new skills.
Being willing to learn how to communicate.
Practising being grounded.
Doing exercise.
Getting some books on assertiveness.
Stepping up to the plate and doing the hardest things for me.

Stop where I'm at. Look 360 degrees around. Identify people I may have to run from or fight. Identify my exit or place to hide. Identify available weapons. Repeat as necessary.

It takes less than one minute to do and it's weirdly effective because it makes me focus on my thought processes and determine if my hyper vigilance is really necessary in that moment or if I'm letting it run away from me. If its necessary I leave. If its not necessary I stop and try to figure out what set me off.
