What Did You Eat And Drink Last?

Parkin - northern English ginger cake made with oats. My grandma made it for me when I was young and I love it so much.

I had a go at making it once and gave some to my dad & brother. Poor them lol. What I made wasn't a delicious moist cake but rather summat you could build houses with :laugh:

So I used to make fantastic gingerbread houses every Halloween (for Xmas, but the first stage (of what looks like the ruins of a castle) looks pretty spooky, and it takes a loooong time to build a meter square castle, so my kiddo and I started early.

The recipe I used for about 2/3s of the gingerbread houses is something known as “oven plywood”.

It has the consistence of asphalt on a summer day. You can dig your fingernail into it before you bake it, but even just chilled it’s not gonna do anything else.

Rye flour. OMFG. Seriously dense stuff.
