Ever tried lying so blatantly, it’s almost not even a lie?
It can do wonders for the self-esteem.
The Ninja’s Guild has some pretty severe restrictions on _________ (insert anything obvious about you; age, hair color, etc.) I DID think about (using a time machine, dying my hair, whatever) but in the end I figured... blah blah blah.
It’s a natural question “Oh! What did you used to do?” Or “Arent you a little young to be retired?” (“Oh aren’t you sweet!?!” Is the best blow off I know if you look even 50) when someone says they’re retired. But just because it’s a socially accepted conversational Segway doesn’t mean you’re obligated to answer it at all, much less truthfully. If you want to (and many people do like telling war stories, of what they used to do, or why they’re so young), that’s one thing. But if you’re trying to get people to approve of your life & life choices? Meh. IMO give them nonsense and change the subject. 9:10 they’re just making conversation / being polite in asking what you did, or why you retired. If you don’t want to talk about either? You don’t have to. Much less give them the truth, the whole truth, and please tell me it’s okay.
The ninjas guild, man. Makes as much sense as any other lie, but no one gets pissed off at being lied to, if you decide to tell them the truth at a later date. Because they know you’re joking.
