That makes me a little ill at ease, on your behalf. How do you feel about that?
Just to clarify, I think there's a difference between the 'tribal war' inherent in us, and then some politicians' attempt at dividing a nation. We have such a politician here too, makes me a lil queezy.

Oh! That makes sense! Reminds me of how the most hard right people are often called libertarians or they are proponents of neo-liberal economic policies. And also speaks to why some left-leaning people here say they won’t vote for anyone because the two parties are one-in-the-same to them. And why the true socialists scoff when people on the right call people on the left socialist as a slur because the true socialists say that the democrats are nowhere near socialist.

Sadly that fear is still around but not often in a clear and present way. I hear it most in the far left leaning (socialist, communist, or anarchist) podcasts. I was just listening to one yesterday and the host said that people frequently associate violence with anarchy and communism but that the amount of people subjected to violence under capitalism is too high to count. I get the sense that the radical left conflates capitalism with the American political structure—and to some extent perhaps they have a point.

Pretty numb—I’m used to that being the way politics go. He’s running to be a representative in my state in one of the wealthiest districts. He would replace a Trump loyalist who is stepping down.
In the last election one of the candidates for our governor was a former news anchor whose sole campaign promise was to overturn the Biden election—two years into the presidency. She barely lost. And is running for senate now.
My state is one of the ones that people in the rest of the country have disdain for, and it’s understandable.

Violence is usually associated with political extremes. And yes, some would argue that the amount of people trodden under by capitalism is humungous. Others point to stalinism as another mean of oppression. That may both be right.

Makes sense. When a socialist politician here speaks up, they usually attack the opposition for wanting to ease taxes on the rich.

I'm not as such complaining. I got money from the government when the utility prices sky-rocketed (energy crisis, caused by Ukraine war).
Seems to be "capitalism damage control", in a way.
