I'm going to stop eating sugar!

Friday I did not know that. I drink too much Pepsi and want to give it up. When I go without it even for just one day, I get really dizzy and lightheaded.

That's great! I'm doing intuitive eating myself. But I say whatever motivates you/works for you is great. I don't believe in the idea that there's one way of eating for everyone. Good luck!!
Some experts believe the body can produce sugar. As long as you don't abandon common sense, you should be okay. Many foods produce natural sugars that you wouldn't think... such as beans.

There are two parts to that - the second is salt. Many many things that contain lots and lots of sugar also have lots of salt to modify the sweet from the sugar.

Reducing is a good thing as the secondary effect is high blood pressure.......

Freddyt- I have low blood pressure. Family members have suffered with low sodium. I had not thought of that. A few yrs ago I lost taste for coffee, so drink Pepsi first thing. I know its not good. Have to figure this one out.

All sugars are natural sugars, that come from foods. Even drinking alcohol, starts off as grain/fruit sugars, and reverts back to sugar once processed by the body. Which is why both alcoholics and opiate addicts crave sugar.

Refined sugar white table sugar (and turbinado, light & dark brown sugar, & cane syrup) comes from a kind of grass known as sugarcane, both regular & high fructose corn syrup comes from corn, maple sugar from maple syrup, milk sugars (like lactose, galactose, etc.) come from dairy, beet sugar (which was the most popular sugar before sugar cane was found/commercialised, amd in some parts of the world is still the most popular/readily available) from sugarbeets, etc.

Chemically? Anything with an -ose ending (lactose, galactose, sucrose, glucose, fructose, etc.) is a sugar, where the front half tells you the type of sugar. Fructose comes from fruits/veg.

Nutritionally, anything with carbohydrates (sugar) or starch (sugar) contains… sugar. Because that’s what a carbohydrate is. Sugar. Just as proteins are proteins, and lipids are fats.

Some people are so serious about removing sugar from their diets that they nix ALL sugar. Refined & in whole foods. They end up dead or in the ER. Others, only mean a teeny tiny slice of sugar sources, and are totally fine. Unless they’re diabetic. And need to be far more thorough, about their sugar consumption.

Paracetamol on hand to help manage cravings headaches, and being okay with being pretty cranky for a couple of weeks as you go through withdrawals, kicking your soft drink (soda) habit is going to be awesome for your physical and mental health. Maybe allow yourself a cup of tea or something to help withdraw slower. They’re an absolute nightmare for our bodies - good luck. You can do this!

I'm going to stop eating sugar and post awards for myself when I succeed!

I quit eating sugar 2 months ago. I have lost 27 lb. I used the Glycemic list of foods, bought Stevia and a brown sugar substitute. Used a lot of new recipes, no or low carb. The idea of sugar is not in my brain. I get enough from fruits and vegetable. I cheated and tried my husbands ice cream. It did not taste good at all. I feel better, look better and my brain is much more cognitively alert. I am all in for you. You may have to adjust for a little bit . However it is nothing but poison in so many ways.šŸ¤—āļø

Please be careful to limit that to refined sugar, or similar. Absolute sugar elimination = seizures, brain damage, & death. The brain runs on glucose, and glucose alone. Eliminate all sugar from your diet & you’ll be dead or brain dead within a few weeks/months… depending on how much you ā€œcheatā€.
Thanks! I'm loosley categorizing "sugar" as sweets/dessert foods, or anything that tempts my sweet tooth. I really should eat more actual fruit.
