I think christmas is hooey, but I think that about most holidays (you want to celebrate winter solstice or religion? just do it.. on your own... with your friends - no big deal).

We have a thing here called saint nicolas. It´s when this old fart with a beard comes all the way from Spain to gives us presents. He has a white horse called "mold", who is somehow (through amazing gymnastics) able to climb on Dutch roofs. The "helpers" of saint nicolas then throw presents down the chimney for kids, who leave little dishes of milk for the horse at the entrance of the chimney (as if that arse of a horse could fit down there).

All the adults have a great time bickering about the "helpers" and whether or not it´s racist, and whether or not we should kill each other over thinking it´s racist. In the meantime the kids watch the adults bicker about it and have no idea what´s going on.

It´s great.

I believe it's really just celebrating the sun growing in strength again and the days getting slowly longer after the winter solstice. I don't like how they've made it all about getting money out of us all. That's not how it should be.

The holidays in general are a huge trigger for me, winter holidays especially, Christmas, New Years etc. I can't stand it when the Christmas commercials start playing on tv and the stores start getting out all the decorations etc. I usually get really depressed and triggered around Christmas, and it doesnt help when they start bringing out Christmas decorations in Septmeber :banghead: or the tv stations have been doing "Christmas in July" where they start playing Christmas movies on tv in July:shifty: Bah Humbug indeed, we shouldn't be having to deal with Christmas triggers until atleast December:shifty:

I was up to my eyeballs with Christmas stuff before I left (as part of my business). Two week respite while I'm in LA-----then I have to hit the ground running when I get back east in another week+. From then on it will be Christmas madness! (But I love it----especially Black Friday, not for the retail stuff though.)

I LOOOOOOVE CHRISTMAS!

My mom made all our holidays horrible. For some reason she would totally freak out during them, and not in a good way. The first time I had a good holiday was when I wasn't living with her.

Currently, we have three young cats, so, no tree. But hubby's birthday is always right around Thanksgiving, so I do make the feast for that, though I am wondering how I'm going to manage it this year with this excruciating fibro pain and sciatica. The chair in the kitchen helps. Bits and pieces, I guess. I can make the stuffing and mashed potatoes a couple days ahead of time and just worry about the turkey and all the rest of it on the day.
