What is the feeling called when you’re nostalgic and homesick for a time and place you never actually experienced?

The words that came to mind for me were wistful and homesick. I like the idea of reincarnation so another time and place can feel like home to me sometimes.

There’s a German word which translates to homesick for a place you’ve never been, and feelings you’ve never felt; fernweh. Translates literally to “Farsick”, although the translate back into English comes up wanderlust, that’s not accurate. We simply don’t have a direct translation.

There’s a Japanese word, too, (actually, I think the word exists in most se Asian countries; it’s a Taoist concept) but it doesn’t have good connotations attached. Essentially it means you hate yourself so much you’ll never be happy with your past or present, & until you stop hating yourself your future will suck, too.
