Today I received a brochure in tha mail regarding an upcoming Mindfulness Workshop run through VVCS. As a supporter I suffer depression and was wondering if those who have learnt mindfulness would recommend it. It looks like the workshop extends over 3 sessions of 2.5 hours duration each (or it could be just 1 session offered ob 3 different nights, not really clear on the brochure).

Any comments would be appreciated.

I have not done it in a class setting and only online and from books but it has had an enormous impact on my life and I do recommend it. I believe it is a useful skill for depression.

Hi discarded!

Mindfulness is a wonderful tool! I would say if you have not mastered this it would be a good idea. It is one of the first things taught in DBT. Iit helps with grounding and staying in the moment. Can improve your concentration. It can teach you pay attention to your personal needs and how to relax. You listen more to your body. It also helps with appreciation in turn helps the depression.

I was very thankful to have had mindfulness when I was in the throws of severe depression. It takes practice but if you are willing to give it your all I think you will notice a positive difference in you daily functioning. I improved significantly after practice!

I have read quite a lot about it and I've only ever read good things. It seems to be about concentrating on the moment and being able to filter out the negatives. I think we should all do a course! I hope you do give it a go and hope that you find that it helps.
