We did as well. It felt as though there was as much smoke inside the classroom today as outside, and a report that actual ash was falling. I've a headache and my throat is raw. I am officially in the very unhealthy category for anxiety as well!

Ugg. And I just learned that a red flag wildfire warning *here* goes up tonight due to winds...

Hepatitis A out breaks in 3 locations... Over 500 hospitalized, California has again declared a state of emergency.

Couldn't find an article today about if or how much of the fires have been contained?

An herbalist friend of mine shared this with some folks earlier and I thought it may be helpful to share here. (please be just as mindful of using any herbal methods as you would with prescription drug use - thoroughly research based on your individual medical history and check for other drug interactions, etc. before using)

My heart is with all who are dealing with the most basic life necessity....breathing. Hugs and hopes for an end in sight damn soon.

@Tornadic Thoughts I love this and thank you! The irony here for me is that this air has killed my lemon balm. Also, I am wondering about the herbal remedy avenue when so much of what we are breathing is toxic due to plastic, and a delightful (*sarcasm*) array of other man made home based, highly toxic pollutants? Please understand I am not challenging your friends perspective--the exact reason I am a member of this forum lies within the loss of an herbalist in my life.

No challenge taken or implied, @ShikibuZ . It's a very reasonable question. I have no specific answers. I just try to do the best I can with what I've got to work with, choosing nature and my intuition more often than I choose something suggested by a professional that was created in a test tube or laboratory. That seems to work the best for my biology and mental health. I guess she was sharing for the folks who may already have some of the helpful herbs and tonics and such on hand and not having to try to harvest it all among the active fires? I don't know. I was just sharing something that may prove to helpful to some during yet another crisis happening around us.

You've prompted another train of thought for me, though, especially regarding all the foods and drinks that my family, the doctors, and other so called professionals were recommending to me through the years that led to me reaching 324 lbs. and arriving at the worst health of my life, becoming immobile and damn near bed ridden. Many folks stringently and aggressively question an herbal remedy (as we should ANY remedy suggested by anyone) but won't hesitate to continually throw back something served to them through a drive-through window or substances created somewhere in a test tube by companies who purposely hire people to make their stuff highly addictive and detrimental to their overall well-being. Irony surrounds us everywhere we go, ay? Along with much tox-sick-city.

@Tornadic Thoughts Oh yes, I agree. Much irony. Also yes, harvesting any herbs right now is obviously not a good idea! I shared about my lemon balm as it was planted in my herbalist friends honor, so I'm now grieving the damn plant!

I am grateful you shared! There is a new little shop close by that may be able to provide some of her suggested herbs and tonics. I made a list. So, again, thank you.

Im still trying to understand CA and the winds here but Santa Ana seems to be MOSTLY a central an...

Yes, in the north they are called Diablo winds, I guess after Mt. Diablo. Both Santa Ana and Diablo winds simply describe dry winds that come from the dry or desert interior. The winds are dry, warm or even hot, and often happen at the driest time of year in September and October. All you need for a disaster is a spark. I think the word is that a power line came down due to very high winds. Then there's a fire and the wind carries embers and pretty soon everything's burning.

I live quite a ways south of where most of the fires were/are. But the smoke! High schools cancelled football games and outdoor evens were rescheduled. The air had twice the amount of particulates as is considered okay.

We did have a local fire yesterday. About 30 acres that took several hours and at least one tanker plane to put out. We're due for a wee bit of rain tomorrow evening. It won't amount to squat but it comes off the ocean (more humidity) and its cool.

Someone I used to work with lost a home that she rents out. Everyone okay there at least. Nothing left but the mailbox.

Yesterday was a big day for my city in the North Bay in the fact that the majority of the people whom were residing in make-shift shelters, buildings, and trailers from the fires burning down their homes and over 200 previously homeless...were rehomed with the help of Catholic Charities, Red Cross, and government agencies. The fair grounds no longer homes livestock that were displaced and mobile emergency satellite units.

The city’s infrastructure is projected to take over one and half years for reinstating medical facilities and over several years to reestablish the hub of economy and rebuild services. Many doctors & specialist have relocated to larger cities due to the loss of homes and the lack of current availability. Thus prices are rising in many areas of industry from the burgeoning demands and lower supply due to many new factors.

One little bit of information that I did not see posted on this thread is that the country from which our board’s founder is from...flew in firefighters to assist. As well many other states came to the call and stepped up in harms way to save as many residents, pets and livestock as possible. Their motto was- Lives first.

Service-people of the armed forces, Police personnel, Sheriffs, the unsung Hero or Heroine next store among the volunteer and FireFighters came together to save lives. Our own FireChief’s home burnt down as he teamed his members together to rescue those in flames.

So I ask those who might read this to consider an moment of silence for all those whom lost their lives and those whom sacrificed with honor. For sometimes woven among the disasters, are also stories of the courageous coming together for a common cause & the greater good. My sincere gratitude, respect and heart goes out to everyone of those involved.
