I've been away from therapy for 6 months now. I think I'm ready to go back.

I've periodically gone online to search for a new therapist but was never thrilled by what I found. Last week I found someone who takes my insurance (I hope...I've found therapists who say they take medicare and when I talk to them, it's more like they take ONE medicare patient and that Medicare patient won't be leaving therapy for a few years at least. I guess it makes them feel like they're doing some good for the world by accepting one of us...or maybe it just makes them look good to others? But I digress...)

So anyway, I need to contact this new therapist. She does Neurofeedback and is experienced with trauma. Just what I'm looking for. I know I swore up and down that I'd never do Neurofeedback again, but my physical symptoms are kicking into high gear again and driving me nuts.

I guess I'm just looking for a little encouragement. I hate the new therapist search process!

Have to say I was surprised to read you were going to have Neurofeedback again, but I'm sure your past experiences will mean you know what you want from it, how and why.

Sorry to hear your physical symptoms are so bad.

I hope your contact with the therapist goes well. I hate the new therapist search process too! Worth it in the end, though. Good luck.

they take ONE medicare patient and that Medicare patient
My mom is a medical biller and said that billing to Medicare is incredibly difficult as they expect a lot more before paying, they have different rules, etc. I imagine that's why a lot of medical professionals won't accept it. That's beside the point though...

I hope this therapist works out for you. :)

I understand that it's difficult. The attitude that I got was more of condesention. Really, don't ADVERTISE that you take medicare patients when you aren't at the moment and won't be for another two years at least. It's not that hard to update your psychology.com profile lol.

And in reality, a lot of medical professionals DO take medicare. If they didn't they'd be almost completely cutting out their over 65 clientele. Again, my issue wasn't that people don't take medicare rather that this person was dishonest.

Hi SoL I'm just interested to know why you are looking for a new therapist. Were you unhappy with your last one or is it because of insurance?

I've returned to therapy several times now but always go back to the same one as she knows my story & I trust her.

Long story.

The last one I was with for 1 3/4 years. She messed up the protocol one day and I had an adverse reaction. Instead of saying "hey, I messed up" she blamed it on me and said I was too "sensitive" for Neurofeedback. Well, funny, because I'd been doing ok with the treatments up until that point! And I know she messed up because I could tell that she lost track of time and let me go on for too long.

Now she even refuses to release my records. It's just as well, they weren't detailed at all (1-2 lines written a session) so I'm not sure if they'd be very valuable. Besides, I want to see how a new therapist will treat me without the influence of past records.

The last one didn't take my insurance, but this one might. *crosses fingers*

Honestly, I wanted a break to stabilize on my own. I'm doing better in that regard, so the break has been worth it.
