Some Peoples Avatars Freak Me Out

I am sorry NH that some avatars are freaking you out.

It doesn't happen to me, sometimes I feel for them. I think they keep to let out their own thoughts. If someone is using violent or disturbing avatars, you can talk to forum admins/mods. Perhaps they may have a way to find better solution for this.

NH, I was about to start a thread like this several weeks back when I came across two that had a very negative effect on me. I had to stay away from both as much as possible. They could have ended in triggering me and so I stay(ed) away.

I am lucky in the sense that I am on an Eee PC, i.e. the screen is tiny. That way, the avatars remain quite small as well. I am glad the one person changed theirs later-on because I like to read what they write.

Hope you'll find a way to deal with this in a good way for you.

There was a member on here that had a gun as an avatar...it looked like you were staring down the barrel of a gun pointed right at you. I hated that avatar and wondered why he would use it on a sight like this...but.... who knows what's going to affect other people. For all I know too my avatar sets people off....

Hard thing to ignore. I hope you find a way past it though.

Yes Innordinate, I hate to see at violent avatars. I don't ignore them, but don't pay attention to their avatars. Avatars can be triggering most of times. It can influence your mood, too. Just like how forums have themes(I love this forums bluish theme:inlove:), similarly avatars associated with people.

I am glad the one person changed theirs later-on because I like to read what they write.

I am glad to hear this.

I've been told by a member that one of my old avatar's was creepy and they basically asked me if I could take it down or replace it.

Other people didn't have the same reaction as this person did to it, and I didn't feel compelled to change it straight away. I did shortly after, and that choice may have been influenced by this persons feedback. I don't think I would have done the same if I'd found someone's avatar creepy...I'd probably just try and block it out...like with my hand, while I was reading.

I don't expect someone to take down their choice of pic just because I have an averse reaction to it, but, in the case of my cousin who had a very scary avatar of one of the masks from the band Slipknot, I did de-friend him over it. I didn't want to look at it every time he decided to post something.
