What Did You Eat And Drink Last?

It is so durn rare, these days, that I can get bread and meat in the same space at the same time
Um.. I'm nosy as a human, so feel free to tell me to f*ck off. But where are you where that's rare? Now that I think about it I don't ever eat sandwiches abroad but I've always had the option I think, maybe.. and now I'm mentally walking around foreign supermarkets for the bread aisle.

I last ate a cheese sandwich and drank mango monster heh

It’s just that I have a dairy allergy... so I can’t buy presliced meat, or 99% of breads. I have to buy raw meat and cook it, & either hit up a few specific bakeries, or bake my own... and I don’t have an oven.

Before the pandemic it was easy. The 2 bakeries that I can buy from are both on my train line from work, and I had an oven.

Ditto, meats were easy, before the pandemic... but not so much after. In the US most meat is treated with casein (a dairy protein) to keep it pink/red. Only kosher meat, or hung meat (like buying 100kg-225lb / 1/8th of a cow) is dairy free.

So I’ve only had something like 6 sammies in the past year and a half.

Ah that makes sense. I apologise for my nosy, it's pathological 😛

And my nephew has a relatively severe dairy allergy. N before he existed I did not realise the amount of stuff that contains dairy. So yah I get how it's been hard to get sandwich stuff you can eat mid pandemic.

Right???

And in the US it’s insane... because we subsidize (govt) dairy/corn/soy crops... so companies get a tax break in using any -or all- of those products in their goods. Which means that Heinz ketchup manufactured in the US? Has “natural flavors” added (nearly always an amalgamation of dairy/corn/soy... I was on a first name basis with the legal teams from ChemPoint & Brenntag for several years, as they checked batch & lot numbers for me), but in Canada? Nope. So I can eat Canadian Heinz ketchup, but not American. It’s wacky.

A salad with arugula, mesclun mix, spinach, kale, carrots, red onion, radishes, cabbage microgreens, and papaya poppy seed dressing along with a bowl of mushroom spelt soup. Sipped on burdock root/sarsaparilla/red clover sun tea as a night cap.
