So, you can recognise that grounding behaviours are, in fact, something that you already incorporate into your daily life, AND that you in fact use that tool already to make the most of situations you want to enjoy.
Perhaps take a moment to give yourself a high five, because that’s brilliant. Grounding is a concept that you do actually understand, and already use to positive effect. That’s a pretty brilliant outcome for a single thread, right? :)
So the next step is going to be expanding the way you use that tool, to benefit you in other ways, and at other times. If dissociation is something you know you do a lot? You can use grounding skills to reduce the amount of time that you’re dissociated, so that you’re fully present for more of your life. Going through life as a space cadet isn’t much of a way to live, and it doesn’t have to be the norm.
Absolutely not going to dispute that for you, the threat hasn’t gone away just yet. But probably, you can see that being present for more of your life is going to be an enriching experience. So have a think about ways you can achieve that grounded state in more everyday situations.
