What Exercise Did You Do Today

I managed to take a walk in the morning despite the light rain (I've used rain as an excuse so often.. 😁🙈) 4000 steps. It was lovely! And I tried to do what I got as an mental exercise= walk slowly. But that didn't work well. I had to remind my self to slow down 15 times or so, and still I couldn't manage walking really slow. (Adhd)

And then I did some soft yoga for 20 minutes. I feel so much better and will have energy over to go to the woods in the evening for a proper walk. I really need to MOVE more! It helps with both the anxiety and the physical pain (herniated disc's and inflammation). Use it or loose it. ..as someone said.

Hey there I am a fellow disk survivor, but prolapsed and not sure if it herniated. Thanks for the reminder I should get back into yoga (which I did about 25 years ago), this time for back strength. Years ago I took up light gym work every second day which really helps...

then I realised it was assisting PTSD recovery too 😘

sorry to hear you too suffer from problems with the disc. Is you nerve pain severe? Mine isn't anymore; the two discs in my neck has "dried out" (the doctor says they do after about 3 years) but there is some nerve damage and then I think I have one broken disc in my lower back, but isn't as bad. But there are a lot of problems with my spine and neck/back. So I also really have to exercise in the ways I can or the nights get really bad and I risk not being able to walk (my lower back can so easily give up on me; and then it's hell on eart; but moving really helps with avoiding that; so haven't happened for a while). I'm also into a bit of feldekrais- have you heard of that? That has really helped a lot: and are very soft exercises I need to do every day (I have strayed a bit from it lately, so will try to get back to it) to keep my mobility. I dream of going back to the gym too: but can't afford it right now.

It's a plus that it helpes with the PTSD too.. ☺️

Thanks for asking, my nerve pain isn't severe atm, but every couple of years or so I do a stupid move (like sitting all day with the laptop on the couch before picking up a heavy bag) and get literally floored for a day or two.

Gym helps: I don't use heavy weights and mainly go for the cable machine with the vertical T-bar, to stretch out the spine as recommended by a back specialist. Also treadmills, to prevent injury from jogging on asphalt. Speaking of affordability I should invest in ergonomic furniture but find the office chair I bought an uncomfortable waste of money and now don't know what to buy.

But the gym definitely helps and would highly recommend you take on the long-term investment to save on later surgery if you can cut back on something else (I replaced coffee shops and most eating out with gym membership). IMHO it's a myth that gyms are macho places or for fitness freaks: The solidarity and community spirit of gyms is a mood booster.

Sadly nothing, better get started tomorrow.

So that's today! Every little start to exercise is a form of harm reduction, like one less cookie, beer or cigarette. If you are starting out I would recommend a 15 mins stroll in nature, enjoy the trees and count the birds. Then gradually increase on a daily basis - 20 mins, 30 mins etc. Then when that gets boring maybe try a slow jog, no matter how slow at the start. If you can do that daily, get back to me in a few weeks and let me know how it makes you feel, am pretty sure it will bring just a little bit of joy 😘
